In the issue of choosing Polyacrylamide, as long as you master the following points, the problem will be solved:

1) Sludge is an inevitable product in sewage treatment. First of all, we should understand the source, nature, composition and solid content of sludge.

2) Selection of ionicity of Polyacrylamide: For the sludge to be dehydrated, flocculants with different ionicities can be used for screening through small experiments to select the best and most suitable Polyacrylamide, so that the best flocculant effect can be achieved, and the dosage can be minimized to save costs.

The key to selecting ionicity is (1) the size of the flocs and (2) the strength of the flocs (water content).

  • Floc size: If the flocs are too small, the drainage speed will be affected. If the flocs are too large, the flocs will bind more water and reduce the sludge cake degree. The size of the flocs can be adjusted by selecting the molecular weight of Polyacrylamide
  • Floc strength: The flocs should remain stable and not break under shear. Increasing the molecular weight of Polyacrylamide or selecting a suitable molecular structure will help improve the stability of the flocs.

3) Mixing of Polyacrylamide and sludge: Polyacrylamide must fully react with the sludge at a certain position in the dewatering equipment to produce flocculation. To this end, the viscosity of the Polyacrylamide solution must be appropriate. It can be fully mixed with the sludge under the existing equipment conditions. Whether the two are mixed evenly is the key factor for success. The viscosity of the polyacrylamide solution is related to its molecular weight and preparation concentration.

4) Dissolution of Polyacrylamide: Only when it is well dissolved can the flocculation effect be fully exerted. Sometimes it is necessary to speed up the dissolution rate. At this time, it is possible to consider increasing the concentration of the Polyacrylamide solution.
